#35 Citizen Kane (1941)
Director: Orson Welles
Actors: Joseph Cotten, Dorothy Corningore, Agnes Moorehead, Paul Stewart, Ruth Warrick, Ray Collins
Masterpiece by Orson Welles. Many people say Citizen Kane has been the best movie of all time; it’s also been rated as the number one movie on AFI’s Top 100 Movies list in 1998 and 2007. Although I do agree that it is splendidly shot and that Welles was certainly ahead of his time in terms of directing style, camera movements and light effects, the narration could have been better, in my opinion. Somehow, it’s especially the middle of the movie that can be boring to watch at times.
The movie was nominated for 9 Oscars in 1942, including Best Directing and Best Picture, and it ended up winning one for Best Writing (Original Screenplay).
