TIME Article on Werner Herzog

Nice column about one of Germany’s very best directors: Werner Herzog:

Herzog’s new movie “Rescue Dawn” is a movie I’m very much looking forward to, because the director didn’t give in to the Hollywood studios. Instead, he made the film he really wanted to do. Herzog is well-known for undertaking nearly impossible projects in remote locations and with often complicated actors. This time he was filming on location again and he has a real star in his movie, namely Christian “Batman” “American Psycho” Bale.

“Rescue Dawn” is based on the true story of German-born Dieter Dengler, who made his way into the United States military, because he wanted to become a pilot, but who was then shot down over Vietnam and captured. Werner Herzog doesn’t shrink away from showing how horrific Dieter Dengler’s experience must have been.

All right, Mr DeMille, I'm ready for my close up.
